In our automotive test benches, PXI systems with VeriStand serve as the core, integrating with Simulink models to control motion and coordinate auxiliary systems like industrial PLCs and CompactRIO measurement devices. For simpler, low-entry setups, portable solutions such as the USB-enabled, plug-and-play NI 4432 units enable rapid measurements and data analysis, fully supported by MathWorks integration packages. 15:30 Session 4 – “Fast voltage binning and logistical management of LED filaments using LabVIEW”
Sylvania LED Filament Helios lamps have large numbers of filaments, each filament containing around 25 LED chips in series. These filaments are mounted in parallel. Due to the steep current- voltage characteristics of diodes, small differences between individual LED filaments can give rise to large differences in current. Not only does this create visible differences in light output between such filaments, it also leads to so-called thermal runaway that can destroy the lamp. This phenomenon can be greatly reduced by sorting the LED filaments in voltage bins and only using filaments of the same bin in one lamp. Equipment is built to automatically measure the voltage of each filament at a standardized current and place the filaments in trays according to their voltage bin. The application uses a GE Fanuc PLC, an Apollo Seiko robot, a National Instruments cRio, Delta Elektronika power supplies and a Türck RFID Read/Write system. The equipment is controlled by a Labview application that instructs the PLC and the robot, does the electrical measurements, writes the measured data into the RFID mounted in the filament trays and maintains a dabase of the content of each tray. The status of the machine as well as the statistical analysis of the measured data and the content of the database can be followed in real-time on two screens.

Reusing code sounds obvious: write it once, avoid the wheel-reinventing, keep things consistent. In practice it rarely works out cleanly, and often makes the next project harder rather than easier. During this presentation we will go on an excursion into different approaches to designing reusable code. We will discuss what makes code reusable and why it may fails, and what pragmatic reuse looks like in real projects.

Most LabVIEW test systems have a ceiling somewhere: analysis that will not fit inside the test window, data decimated because there is no time to process all of it, a run that has to go overnight. A GPU can move that ceiling by two orders of magnitude. So why do so few test systems use one?
Part of the answer is that the first attempt usually fails. A naive port pays for every transfer, every small kernel launch and every synchronization point, and it can land below the CPU code it replaced. In this talk it does: 10-100x slower, live, in front of you.
Then we climb back out one step at a time in G²CPU: batching small operations into large ones, removing the host memory round trip with zero copy, going asynchronous so transfer and compute overlap, and compressing to move fewer bytes. Every step measured on the same dataset, ending more than 100x above it.
No GPU experience is assumed. You leave knowing what the path actually costs, and whether your application is on it.
